It is responsibility of state to trace missing persons: Sindh High Court

Sindh High Court held hearings on Thursday regarding the cases of seven missing individuals, including a minor girl.

During the proceedings, the family of one missing person expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s failure to locate the individual even after many years. The investigation officer informed the court that the missing person, Raees, was a mental patient. However, the court emphasized that it is still the state’s responsibility to locate him, regardless of his mental health status.

Regarding the missing minor girl, Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto noted the various complexities involved in the investigation, whether she had married or encountered other circumstances.

The court assured the families of the missing individuals that efforts were underway to locate their loved ones. Additionally, the bench instructed several police stations to register cases for the missing persons.

Furthermore, the court ordered reports from the federal government and various state institutions regarding the matter to be submitted by August 12.

In a separate hearing on Wednesday regarding 10 missing citizens, the court expressed frustration over the lack of action by investigation officers and others involved in locating the missing persons. Justice Phulpoto highlighted the prolonged indecision regarding whether the missing persons left voluntarily or were forcibly taken.

The bench also called for reports from all jails and detention centers across the country and summoned the head of the joint investigation team (JIT) over the failure to locate a missing citizen who disappeared 12 years ago from Ajmer Nagri in Karachi.

Additionally, the court directed financial assistance for the family of a citizen who went missing from Mominabad in Karachi in 2012.
