Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani requests contempt of court proceedings in letter to Chief Justice

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, a member of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), has taken a significant step by addressing a letter to Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, seeking contempt of court proceedings. This action comes amidst an ongoing social media campaign targeting him. Similarly, another senior judge of the IHC, Justice Babar Sattar, had previously penned a letter to the Chief Justice urging action against a similar campaign aimed at him. Following deliberations, it was decided that Justice Sattar’s letter would be treated as a contempt of court matter, and appropriate action would be initiated.

Furthermore, reports indicate that a bench may be constituted today, modeled after the one formed to address the concerns of Justice Babar Sattar and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani. This bench is anticipated to issue contempt of court notices against individuals implicated in spreading negative propaganda against the judges via social media platforms.

Of particular note is the misinformation campaign on social media regarding the citizenship of Justice Babar Sattar, alleging American citizenship. The IHC swiftly refuted these claims, affirming that Justice Sattar holds citizenship solely in Pakistan, dispelling any notion of citizenship in another country such as the United States.
