Khawaja Asif alleges campaign following Lasbela crash ‘joint project’ of PTI and India

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has claimed that the “negative” social media campaign following the Lasbela helicopter crash earlier in August was a “joint project” of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and India against the Pakistan Army.

A campaign against the military was launched following the crash of a Pakistan Army helicopter in Lasbela, which the ISPR had termed distressing for the army and victims’ families.

The incumbent government has put the blame of the campaign on PTI’s social media team, and has alleged it was done on the directions of party chairman Imran Khan.

While addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that 18 Indian accounts were involved in the campaign.

The defence minister stated that Indian media channels said that even if they spent billions of dollars, they would not have created such a network to “safeguard and advance India’s interests in Pakistan” like the way PTI and their leader is doing.

Khawaja Asif alleged that while the country was in mourning after the crash, the PTI’s social media accounts with the help of Indian accounts were engaged in a “smear campaign” against the military.

Citing media reports, he said that an investigation had found that 529 Pakistani accounts, 18 Indian and 33 accounts from other countries were involved in the campaign.

The defence minister added that action would be taken against the perpetrators according to the law and constitution.
