KP cabinet greenlights Rs2.5bn food subsidy for Ramadan

123 Ramazan facilitation centres, 42 mobile utility stores, 83 sasta bazaars and 96 Ramazan dastarkhwans to be set up in province

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Tuesday green-lit Ramadan subsidy package worth Rs2.5 billion to make sure an uninterrupted supply of food items was provided to the public at subsidised rates during the upcoming month of Ramadan.

Government spokesman, Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, spoke with media after a cabinet meeting saying that 2,800 points had been established in the province to sell 20kg bag of wheat flour at the subsidized rate. The bag of wheat would be sold for Rs800 instead of the regular Rs1100 thrice a day during the month of fasting, whereas a 10kg bag would be sold for Rs400.

He said the cabinet meeting had decided to create 123 Ramazan facilitation centres, 42 mobile utility stores, 83 sasta bazaars and 96 Ramazan dastarkhwans during the month. Monitoring units which would be led by the respective secretaries would supervise these facilities. They will check hoarding, price hike and shortage of essential commodities on the market.

Barrister Saif also said that the meeting approved a subsidy of 50 percent per fertilizer bag for the major Kharif crops during the upcoming financial year 2022-23.
