LHC prevents govt from giving electric bikes to students

On Friday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued an injunction prohibiting the Punjab government from distributing electric bikes to students until Monday, pending further court orders.

The directive came during the hearing of the smog remediation case at the LHC, where the court halted the distribution of electric bikes and requested the government to furnish details of the project. Additionally, the court mandated the provision of electric buses to colleges instead of bikes.

Justice Shahid Karim expressed concern over potential misuse of the bikes by students, citing the risk of reckless behavior such as one-wheeling and loitering around girls’ educational institutions. He stated the importance of encouraging students to utilize public transport.

Furthermore, the court requested a comprehensive report on the distribution of bikes in various cities for further review.
