Man sets himself on fire in Rajanpur

In Rajanpur, a man set himself on fire in a police station after the police failed to act against the assault on his mother. The man who self-immolated is currently in a critical condition in the Multan Burn Center, with slim chances of survival, according to the burn unit administration.

In Rajanpur, influential individuals became enraged when a father of three and his mother tried to prevent sewage water from entering their home. The elderly woman was brutally assaulted and thrown into a filthy puddle, while repeated contacts with the police yielded no action.

Distraught over the dishonor of his mother and the apathy of the police, the father of three doused himself with petrol and set himself alight in the City Police Station, Rajanpur. The affected person was transferred to the Pak-Italian Burn Center in Multan, where he struggles between life and death. The affected family has cried out for justice.

The area of Rehmat Colony in Rajanpur saw further tensions as neighbors increased the flow of sewage towards the home of Syed Saqib Hussain Shah after he objected. The assailants intensified their assault when Saqib tried to stop the sewage water.

Hearing her son’s screams, his mother, Zubaida Bibi, rushed to help but was then dragged by her hair and beaten by the attackers, who stripped her and continued to beat her in the dirty water, threatening grave consequences.

Despite multiple complaints, the local police, including SHO City Rajanpur Shabbir Mastoi, did not respond, forcing Saqib Hussain, in desperation, to commit self-immolation. His family has demanded immediate strict punishment for the culprits from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz and IG Punjab, seeking justice.

Despite repeated attempts to contact them, SHO City Rajanpur and the police station clerk received no response. In the meantime, the family of the man who self-immolated has accused the District Police Officer of Rajanpur, Dost Muhammad, of receiving a misleading report from the SHO, leading to the suspension of the police station clerk Tariq Bukhari.
