Mansha claims Pakistan and India engaged in backchannel diplomacy

Nishat Group chairman says there shouldn't be any 'permanent enemies', calls on India and Pakistan to resolve differences

Industrialist Mian Muhammad Mansha has claimed that he was aware of backchannel diplomacy that was underway between India and Pakistan.

Speaking with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday, the chairman of the Nishat group said that there should not be any “permanent enemies”. He added that the arch rivals needed to work to resolve their issues and that the two countries must increase trade.

Addressing businesspersons, he said that Pakistan used to have a 50 to 60 percent trade volume with India till 1965.

The industrialist called for peace, saying that India was equipped with technologies that could greatly help Pakistan. In response, Pakistan had a plethora of things it could offer to India, he added.

The business mogul also claimed that he knew of backchannel negotiations taking place between India and Pakistan which could lead towards positive outcomes.

Mansha further claimed that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi could visit Pakistan if the two countries resolved their issues.

The tycoon suggested that the National Accountability Bureau be shut down, adding that the corruption mantra had gotten stale.

Concluding his address, he asked why the government shied away in privatizing public enterprises, adding that political parties typically favored privatization when in power.
