ECP welcomes PTI independents to SIC, establishing it as second largest party in NA

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) acknowledged the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) as the party of independent National Assembly members.

The ECP sent an official notice to the National Assembly Secretariat, confirming the SIC’s status.

According to the ECP, 82 independent members from the National Assembly joined the SIC. Out of these, 49 came from Punjab and 33 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The SIC did not receive any reserved seats.

The SIC is now the second largest party in the National Assembly, with 120 members. The largest party is PML-N, which has 120 members, while Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) holds 71 seats.

After these changes, the National Assembly has seven independent members. Other parties have smaller numbers of seats: MQM with 21, JUI with 11, PML-Q with five, and others like IPP, MWM, PK-MAP, BNP, PML-Z, BAP, and National Party each having one seat.

The National Assembly Secretariat had asked the ECP for an updated list of party affiliations, which led to this announcement.
