Material being readied for assassinating my character: Imran Khan

Former prime minister says “Sharif mafia” continually conducts personal attacks against opponents

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Wednesday asserted that his opponents have employed companies that are “making material” in order to assassinate his character.

He said this during an interview with actor Shaan Shahid on local television channel. His comments also come as PTI-linked social media accounts have been cautioning supporters of the dangers of “deepfakes”, videos which are created using a artificial intelligence to create life-like but fake videos of people.

“I had to fight mafias, the biggest of which is the Sharif mafia […] they always attack someone on a personal level because they are indulging in corruption for the past 35 years. When someone [points out] their corruption, they attack a person’s character,” Imran said.

The PTI chairman said that his former-wife Jemima Goldsmith was also targeted and a campaign was carried out against her which accused her of being a part of the “Jewish lobby”. He said that a fabricated case was also filed against her which accused her of exporting antique tiles from the country.

He added that his party had announced its long march to Islamabad by the end of the month because to which the Sharifs wanted to carry out character assassination against him to lower his respect in the eyes of the public.
