Matthews’ second century helps West Indies sweep ODI series

West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews showcased her batting prowess once again, scoring her second century of the series to lead her team to a convincing 88-run victory over Pakistan Women in the third ODI, completing a 3-0 sweep in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 fixture.

Matthews, who had previously scored 140 not out in the series opener, displayed an outstanding performance with the bat, amassing 141 runs to guide her team to a total of 278 for six in 50 overs.

In response, Pakistan Women struggled in their run-chase, eventually being bowled out for 190 runs in 47.5 overs.

Facing 149 balls, Matthews struck 19 fours in her career-best innings, forming crucial partnerships of 93 runs with Shemaine Campbelle and 111 runs with Stafanie Taylor.

Despite her dismissal at 250 in the 46th over, West Indies Women remained in a strong position, thanks to contributions from Campbelle, Taylor, and Aaliyah Alleyne.

Pakistan Women’s innings faltered early on, losing half their side for 95 runs. While Aaliya Riaz and Fatima Sana provided some resistance, their efforts were not enough to prevent the inevitable defeat.

Aaliyah Alleyne, Hayley Matthews, and Stafanie Taylor starred with the ball for West Indies Women, each claiming two wickets to help secure the victory.

With this win, West Indies Women have moved up in the ICC Women’s Championship standings, joining Sri Lanka in seventh position on 14 points.

Pakistan Women, on the other hand, remain in fifth position with 16 points after seven rounds.

Looking ahead, both teams will now compete in a five-T20I series, scheduled to take place at the National Bank Stadium from April 26 to May 3.

The matches are set to commence at 7.30 pm.
