Middle East becomes strong contender for Tyson Fury vs Usyk bout

CEO of Tyson Fury’s American promoter Top Rank, Bob Arum said that the Middle East is leading the competition to host the heavyweight unification match against Oleksandr Usyk.

The only thing standing in the way of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight unification match, according to Bob Arum, is the location, with the Middle East now leading the race.

The WBC champion Usyk and the WBA, WBO, and IBF champions have consented to the fight, and according to Arum, CEO of Fury’s American promoters Top Rank, a venue should be decided upon within the next week.

Due to the enormous sums of money being discussed for both boxers, an unnamed country in the Middle East is likely to host the highly awaited fight, but Wembley Stadium would also be an option.

I’m extremely confident that the fight will take place, Arum told Sky Sports News.

“The Middle East is being discussed because they will come up with the largest purse in boxing history, and both competitors have agreed to take part in the bout.”

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has become the preferred location for major boxing events, including Usyk’s point victory over Anthony Joshua in their rematch last August. However, Arum refused to say which country might host and just said that “a couple” is in talks.

The fight might return to Wembley, where Fury successfully defended his WBC title by stopping British opponent Dillian Whyte in the sixth round in front of a 95,000-strong audience last April if the promised purses do not materialize.
