Military forum takes note of propaganda to malign army

The 79th Formation Commanders’ Conference was held on Tuesday where the recent anti-army campaign was discussed.

Led by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the meeting took place at the General Headquarters Rawalpindi, where top tier military officials including corps commanders, principal staff officers, and all formation commanders of the Pakistan Army were present.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the meeting was briefed on the “professional matters, national security challenges and steps being taken to combat traditional and non-traditional threats”.

The propaganda campaign being carried out by some sections to slander Pakistani soldiers and create divisions between the military and the society was briefly discussed, said the military’s media wing.

The military is being criticized on various platforms of social media amid the ouster of Imran Khan by the former opposition through a no-confidence motion. Anti-army slogans were being chanted in certain protests by PTI supporters.

Moreover, anti-army sentiment including hashtags and posts were circulated on platforms like Twitter by certain accounts.

Meanwhile, FIA has arrested around ten suspects after several raids in different cities for being involved in the anti-army campaign. FIA officials have also hinted towards more arrests in the upcoming days.

In addition to the anti-army campaign, the matters of national security were also discussed in the meeting.

The conference also honoured the commitment of officials and men for the security of the borders and the safety of the masses.

“The forum expressed confidence in a well-thought-out leadership structure to uphold the constitution and the law, by all means,” said the ISPR.

The military’s media wing said that the army chief “expressed satisfaction over operational preparedness of formations and response mechanism to deal with emerging challenges”.

“National security of Pakistan is sacrosanct. Pakistan army has always stood by the state institutions to guard it and always will, without any compromise,” said the ISPR.

“Pakistan Army is aware of its responsibilities and shall continue to defend territorial integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan against all internal and external threats under all circumstances,” the army chief had said while concluding the conference.
