National Assembly passes resolution invalidating Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s death sentence

The National Assembly, on Wednesday, passed a resolution during a historic session, declaring the death sentence of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as unlawful.

Under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, the assembly witnessed a significant event as Shazia Marri, a member of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), presented the resolution, which received majority approval from the House.

The resolution not only called for the invalidation of Bhutto’s unjust death sentence but also advocated for his official recognition as a martyr and the bestowing of Pakistan’s highest civil honor, marking a significant step towards rectifying what many perceive as a grave injustice.

However, dissent emerged from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, who opposed the resolution.

Khan’s objection sparked a debate between members of the PPP and the Sunni Ittehad Council, highlighting the contentious nature of the issue.

Shazia Marri, responding to the opposition’s stance, expressed disappointment at the disagreement, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter.

Despite the spirited discussion, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the meeting until 11 am on Friday, signaling a temporary pause in proceedings.
