Nawaz Sharif summons meeting on wheat issue

Nawaz Sharif, the supreme leader of the ruling PML-N, has called for an urgent meeting to discuss the wheat scandal on Monday.

The session, scheduled for today, will be attended by Punjab’s Minister of Food, the secretary of food, and other relevant officials who will provide updates on the matter.
The meeting aims to scrutinize the findings of the federal government’s inquiry committee regarding the wheat issue and assess the current situation.

Sources suggest that Nawaz Sharif will be presented with the report from the inquiry committee by the Prime Minister, who will then make decisions regarding the wheat matter.
A significant decision regarding the wheat situation is anticipated later this week, as per sources.

In response to the challenges faced by farmers in selling their wheat and acquiring wheat bags, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently formed a committee under the Ministry of National Food Security to address these issues. The committee was tasked with resolving farmer concerns within four days.

Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level emergency meeting to discuss wheat procurement through Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO). He emphasized the federal government’s efforts to procure 1.8 million metric tons of wheat to benefit farmers.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister inquired about last year’s wheat import decisions and the rationale behind importing the commodity despite expectations of a bumper crop.
