Nawaz ‘was not’ ready to become prime minister for fourth time, says senior PML-N leader

Senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Senator Irfan Siddiqui, has stated that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was not inclined to assume the position of prime minister for the fourth time.

During an appearance on program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” on Wednesday, Siddiqui remarked that Nawaz Sharif made the decision himself to refrain from seeking the prime ministerial position.

Following Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan after a four-year self-imposed exile from London, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif assumed the role of prime minister for the second time, as nominated by the party. This decision came after Nawaz Sharif opted out of contention for the prestigious position.

The party had eagerly anticipated Nawaz Sharif’s return and centered its election campaign around him, portraying him as a capable leader who could address the nation’s challenges and lead it towards prosperity.

However, following the February 8 elections, where major political parties such as PML-N, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed independent candidates, and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) failed to secure enough seats for a clear majority in the National Assembly, PML-N selected Shehbaz Sharif as their candidate for prime minister.
