Opposition leaders respond to PM Khan’s speech

Giving a tough response to the much-awaited speech of Prime Minister Imran Khan at Parade ground in Islamabad on Sunday, the opposition leaders asked him about the surprise he had promised to announce.

Some of the leaders accused him of corruption, lies and gave him [PM Imran] different names while others made interesting comments on his speech. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif said the explanation given by Prime Minister Imran Khan in his speech was “absurd”, advising him [PM Imran] not to make any mistake as he had lost now.

“When you see power slipping away, you come up with absurd explanations. He who came to power through a London plan sees conspiracy in everything. Make no mistake you have lost because you fooled masses and presided over a corrupt and extremely incompetent government,” he said. PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, who is leading a rally to Islamabad, named Prime Minister Imran Khan as ‘chuha’ [rat] in response to the names he had given her father Nawaz Sharif.

“The biggest rat is the man who is standing at the Parade ground, and is doing ‘jee, jee’,” said Maryam Nawaz while addressing a gathering in Gujranwala. Imran Khan, she said, was the real rat who ate flour, sugar, oil and jobs of 220 million people. “You accuse Nawaz Sharif. You should be ashamed of it. You go to India and target Pakistan Army there. You know why Nawaz Sharif is elected again and again, because this nation and soil belong to him,” Maryam said.

Responding to his speech and gathering at Parade ground, Maryam Nawaz said, “Yeah hara hua shaks munh latka ke wapis ja raha hey,” [This defeated man is now turning back with a gloomy face]. “The screams could be heard clearly from there [the parade ground]. If you [Imran Khan] have any secrets then why don’t you unveil them. He cannot do so, because he doesn’t have any courage. He knows he will face corruption and scandals if he dares to speak,” she added.

Zulfiqar Ali Badar, the spokesperson of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, rejected the speech of Prime Minister Imran Khan, saying that it was based upon lies. “Imran Khan’s speech was a collection of lies spanning over a 25-year-long period,” said Badar. “Where is the surprise of Imran Khan. His gathering and speech was like a dead rat,” said the PPP spokesperson.

The PPP targeted Prime Minister Imran Khan, accusing him of corruption. “Who sold that gifted watch in the UAE? Imran Khan should tell,” said the PPP’s spokesperson while addressing PM Khan. He said it was a sign of doomsday that the man who founded his party on the basis of foreign funding was now talking about making an independent foreign policy. The resources of five governments were used for the PTI’s Islamabad rally, he alleged.

The spokesperson said, “Imran Niazi being a selected prime minister now delivered his last speech. Now he is part of history.” Responding to Prime Minister Imran’s words that Maryam Nawaz did not work for even “an hour”, PML-N leader Hina Pervez Butt said, “Maryam Nawaz has occupied the mind of Imran Niazi.” Hina named PM Imran as “mohallay ki mausi” [maid]. She also called him “chalak lomri” [cunning fox].

“You do such backbiting like a mausi of a mohalla or like a cunning fox,” said Hina Pervez Butt in a post on her Twitter account. She said Imran Khan’s speech of over two hours was meaningless. Jahan Ara Watto, a PPP leader, said, “When your elders taught you Urdu but never taught you that name calling is pathetic shows bad upbringing.”

Nadeem Afzal Chaan, a former aide of PM who recently joined the PPP, also responded to the much-awaited gathering of PTI. Chaan said, “It was a big gathering as the people were full of passion, and Bhutto is still alive.”
