PAK vs NZ: Pakistan face defeat against New Zealand in fourth T20I

New Zealand claimed a 2-1 lead in the five-match series by edging past Pakistan by four runs in the fourth T20I at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Pakistan’s pursuit of a 179-run target faltered, setting up a thrilling final match on April 27.

Pakistan’s chase stumbled early, with captain Babar Azam departing for 5 in the second over.

Despite efforts from young batters Saim Ayub (20) and Usman Khan (16), quick dismissals hindered their progress.

Fakhar Zaman anchored the innings, supported briefly by Shadab Khan (7), but momentum shifted when key wickets fell. Fakhar’s valiant 61 off 45 balls wasn’t enough as the hosts fell short by four runs, finishing at 174/8.

William O’Rourke’s crucial breakthroughs, taking three wickets for 27 runs, bolstered New Zealand’s defense, supported by Ben Sears’ two wickets for an equal number of runs.

In their innings, New Zealand posted 178/7 after opting to bat first. Openers Tim Robinson and Tom Blundell provided a brisk start, adding 56 runs for the first wicket before Blundell’s dismissal for 28 off 15 balls.

Robinson continued to anchor, reaching his maiden T20I fifty before falling for 51.

Despite middle-order setbacks, New Zealand managed a competitive total, with Michael Bracewell contributing 27 off 20 balls.

Abbas Afridi’s crucial wickets and emerging pacer Usama Mir’s impressive performance kept Pakistan’s hopes alive, with Mohammad Amir wrapping up the innings by dismissing Ish Sodhi on the final ball.

Both teams showcased competitive cricket, setting the stage for an exciting finale.
