Pakistan will support securing planet from climate change hazards, PM

Premier assures MGI of full support from Pakistan in his address

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan has resolved that it will support all programs to secure the planet from hazards of climate change.

Addressing at the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) in Sharm El-Sheikh Egypt, the PM also reaffirmed that Pakistan was committed to the MGI and was keen to provide cooperation to all the member countries of MGI.

He said that Pakistan was also ready to share experience and technical expertise for restoration of forests and dry land areas, mangroves, management of protected areas and establishment of forest monitoring systems.

He also said that MGI’s objectives, Pakistan’s national forest policy and Green Pakistan Program are aligned as the focus was to protect, enhance and manage the wildlife and ecosystem by 2030. Commending Saudi government he said that the initiative was a step in the right direction.

The premier said that Pakistan had already exchanged full cooperation through exchanged knowledge and provision of experts with the member states of MGI. He lauded the timely action and leadership of the Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.

PM Shehbaz said, “Nature based solutions are also the heart of my country’s ambitious climate action agenda.”

Earlier in a tweet PM Shehbaz stated that on the sidelines of COP27 he net with the HRH Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman. He also stated that Middle East Green Initiative was pioneering ecosystem restoration and Pakistan was keen to work with Saudi Arabia to address the issue.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations to further enhance the ongoing cooperation. Regional and global issues of mutual interest were also discussed between both. PM Shehbaz appreciated the hospitality of two million Pakistanis working in Saudi Arabia.
