Pakistani doctor featured in Time’s 100 health list

Dr. Shahzad Baig, a Pakistani doctor, has been recognized in Time magazine’s prestigious list of 100 global leaders in the field of health, known as ‘TIME100 HEALTH’.

Dr. Baig serves as the national coordinator for the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme, demonstrating his significant contribution to the fight against polio.

Prior to his role in Pakistan, Dr. Baig worked as a technical adviser for Nigeria’s polio eradication initiative.

Time magazine commended Dr. Baig’s leadership in Pakistan, highlighting the remarkable progress achieved in reducing polio cases under his guidance.

The magazine’s editor, Jeffrey Kluger, praised Dr. Baig’s resilience in overcoming challenges such as attacks on polio workers by extremists.

Kluger underscored the government’s efforts under Dr. Baig’s leadership, including the deployment of 400,000 vaccinators and 80,000 security personnel to immunize over 90 million children this year alone, with an additional 24 million targeted in a spring vaccination campaign.

The Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme expressed pride in Dr. Baig’s recognition, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to the mission of polio eradication in Pakistan.
