Pakistan’s recurring debt repayments will be difficult to escape, says Imran Khan

Without change, Pakistan would find it difficult to escape the cycle of recurring debt repayments, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan said in an interview with the Financial Times.

Imran Khan said that the government must end the borrowing cycles that have constrained emerging economies. He said that if his party won back power, it would prioritize internal changes before debt relief, ruling out a default.

“No matter what we do, the debt is increasing and our economy is gradually contracting. From my party’s perspective, we’ve started to believe that we’re trapped,” he was quoted as saying.
