PCB tries to resolve foreign crickets’ residence issues in old fashion way

Efforts to address the major accommodation issue for foreign cricketers in Lahore have commenced.

Details reveal the construction of a multi-storied building near the Gaddafi Stadium, prompting PCB’s objection due to security concerns. Legal disputes ensued, halting construction, despite the builder having already collected payments for the flats. In a bid to resolve the impasse, the builder proposed selling the building to PCB.

During Zaka Ashraf’s tenure, progress was made on this project. However, sources indicate that PCB has now officially purchased the building for 4 billion rupees, necessitating further action.

While the project entails significant expenditure, upon completion, it will alleviate the challenge of accommodating both foreign and domestic cricketers. Presently, teams lodge in local five-star hotels, incurring substantial expenses for PCB. Additionally, road closures from the hotel to the stadium for security reasons inconvenience the public.

Proximity to the stadium will enhance convenience and cost-efficiency for all parties involved. Notably, while the National Cricket Academy offers standard accommodation, the limited room capacity restricts the feasibility of team stays. Following Lahore, PCB intends to construct a similar hotel near the National Stadium in Karachi.
