Peshawar High Court directs Afghan artists and transgenders to join Supreme Court proceedings

The Peshawar High Court has issued orders for Afghan artists and transgenders to participate in the ongoing Supreme Court proceedings regarding their forced eviction.

The directive came during a hearing presided over by a two-member bench comprising Justice Atiq Shah and Justice Arshad Ali. The court heard a case concerning the compelled expulsion of Afghan artists and transgenders and emphasized the importance of their safety and well-being.

The legal counsel representing the Afghan artists and transvestites highlighted the imminent threat to their lives in Afghanistan, urging against their forcible deportation. In response, the court advised them to withdraw their application from the High Court and join the proceedings in the Supreme Court, where a similar case is already being addressed.

The court questioned the duplication of efforts, prompting the lawyer to clarify that while the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) had filed an application in the Supreme Court, it differed from their petition.
