PM Khan asks why opposition turned to SC after polls announced

Premier says opposition afraid of PTI’s popularity among people of country

Prime Minister Imran Khan has criticized the opposition’s move to approach the Supreme Court (SC), questioning why they had done so when fresh elections were announced.

The premier’s comments came as he held a live ‘question and answer’ session on Monday, during which he assailed the opposition for running away from the elections. He said the opposition was afraid of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s popularity.

“When elections were announced, what is the opposition doing in the Supreme Court? The opposition wants a second NRO,” he said in his opening remarks. The premier said the country could never develop unless parliament had people who contemplated about and worked for the country’s betterment.

“We will give tickets to people with vision this time. We did not know how to contest elections [earlier], but now we do,” PM Khan said.

The premier went on to state that forming a government by buying members went against democracy. He went on to criticize the opposition once again, saying that for three and a half years, they had been saying that the government had failed and that it was “selected”. “We have now announced the election at the request of the opposition,” he added.

Speaking regarding the foreign conspiracy to overthrow his government, PM Khan called on the people to stage protests outside the Red Zone.
