PM Khan deliberately delayed army chief’s extension: Shehbaz Sharif

PML-N President claims PTI behind social media campaign targeting Pakistan Army

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has claimed Prime Minister Imran Khan had deliberately attempted to delay the extension in the tenure of the army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, claiming that his party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, had always respected the military.

In an interview with a newspaper, the PML-N president said that the notification for the army’s chief’s extension had to be redrafted three times when PM Khan tried to extend his tenure.

He added that the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was responsible for running a social media campaign targeting the armed forces.

He said that it was his opinion that the premier intentionally tried to make the process of extension ‘controversial’.

In another development, the PML-N president, during a presser, rejected allegations that his party was responsible for an ongoing social media campaign against the army. He accused the ruling party of targeting the armed forces, saying that there was video proof online that featured PM Khan and his party members maligning the institution.

Sharif said a PTI MNA’s clip had been circulating online where she could be heard “spewing venom” against the Pakistan military.
