PM orders extension of wheat scandal investigation committee’s mandate

The veil has been lifted on the true reasons behind the stalled progress of the investigation committee tasked with probing the wheat scandal, where imported wheat worth billions of rupees was under scrutiny.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has intervened, directing a further expansion of the investigation committee’s scope. Notably, the committee, chaired by the Secretary of the Cabinet Division, has been entrusted with investigating the import of 1.3 million metric tons of wheat infested with insects.

Additionally, the timeline for the committee’s inquiry has been extended, with a directive to conclude the investigation by the end of this week and present the findings to the Prime Minister by the following week. Secretary of the Cabinet Division has briefed the Prime Minister on the committee’s progress, signaling a renewed commitment to uncovering the truth behind this debacle.

Furthermore, in a significant development, a three-member committee led by the Food Commissioner of the Ministry of Food Security has been suspended, shedding light on the gravity of the situation.
