PM Shehbaz promises to raise voice for flood victims at Geneva summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed on Wednesday to draw attention to the plight of flood victims across the nation at the next Geneva conference because thousands of flood victims were still waiting for assistance.

Geneva will play host to the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan On January 9. The Pakistani government and the UN will both co-host the event.

It intends to bring together government representatives, leaders from the public and commercial sectors, and members of civil society to assist the populace and the government in the wake of the terrible floods of 2022.

The premier said that he had invited the leaders of all friendly countries to the summit when he landed in Balochistan’s Sohbatpur area earlier on Wednesday to evaluate rehabilitation operations.

“The last time I visited Sohbatpur, the entire area was underwater, making it difficult to bring food and medicine in.”

Although it was a test for the government, PM Shehbaz recalled, “we were able to disburse Rs100 billion to the affectees with the support of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)”.

The plains of Sindh and the mountains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are home to thousands of people who are waiting for assistance under the open sky.

I have faith that civilized societies will contribute in this regard. We have a firm commitment to go on and won’t stop for even a second, he vowed.

The provincial and federal governments have resolved to build 12 free public schools across Balochistan, the premier stated in his speech.

He added that the facilities for students, cutting-edge technology, e-libraries, qualified professors, and medical clinics will all be present at the schools.
