PM Shehbaz reconstitutes Council of Common Interests

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has restructured the Council of Common Interests (CCI). The notification for this reconstitution was issued following Shehbaz Sharif’s approval.

As per the notification, the eight-member CCI will be chaired by PM Shehbaz, with four Chief Ministers included as members.

An unprecedented move in the country’s history, the Foreign Minister has been appointed to the CCI instead of the Finance Minister. Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Minister, joins the CCI as a member, alongside Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Minister Safiran Ameer Muqam.

Earlier, PM Shehbaz Sharif also reorganized the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet. The official notification announced the reconstitution of the ECC with Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb appointed as its chairman.

The notification further outlined that the finance minister would lead the panel, with four other ministers—covering economic affairs, commerce, power, petroleum, planning, development, and special initiatives—designated as its members.
