PM Shehbaz Sharif attends President Erdogan’s inauguration ceremony

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s inauguration ceremony on Saturday, joining other international leaders in congratulating him on winning the presidential election run-off.

The premier of Pakistan congratulated Turkish President Erdogan, who has been in office since August 2014 and is now in his third decade, on winning the election and being re-elected for a third term.

The two leaders exchanged congratulations and shook hands during their encounter at the occasion, where PM Shehbaz was accompanied by Information and Broadcasting Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, who also congratulated President Erdogan.

The Turkish president thanked his country for choosing in his remarks on the occasion. He exhorted the populace to unite and make a concerted effort to build a better future for the nation.

Turkey’s democracy is robust. We will continue to fortify it, he added, adding that Turkey intended to have good relations with all nations and would contribute to world peace and security.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz was visited by the heads of Turkish business associations, and following their meeting, he asked them to invest in Pakistan and build strategic alliances in the fields of energy, agriculture, information technology (IT), and construction.

The prime minister explained the government’s goals for promoting foreign direct investment at the talks and urged joint ventures. Their discussions focused on deepening commercial and investment connections to take full advantage of prospects in Pakistan and to improve economic cooperation by having Turkish companies operate there directly and through joint ventures with Pakistani counterparts.

PM also held meetings with top Turkish companies that have already invested in Pakistan including Anadolu Group, Arcelik, Zorlu, Albayrak, Limak, Dolsar, Turkish Contractors Association, and Pak Yetirim.

The PM urged them to grow their operations and take advantage of an atmosphere that welcomes investments during the meeting. In addition to praising him for making it easier for them to operate in Pakistan, the Turkish businesses briefed him on their current and plans for investment.
