PM Shehbaz Sharif commends Pakistan Navy’s resilience in safeguarding maritime interests

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by federal ministers, paid a visit to Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where he lauded the unwavering commitment of the Pakistan Navy in protecting the nation’s maritime interests despite facing resource constraints.

Upon his arrival, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf warmly welcomed the prime minister and presided over a guard of honour ceremony performed by a meticulously turned out naval contingent. As a gesture of reverence, Prime Minister Sharif laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada monument, paying homage to the sacrifices made in service to the nation.

Subsequently, he engaged in discussions with the Principal Staff Officers of Naval Headquarters, focusing on matters related to regional maritime security and the operational readiness of the Pakistan Navy.

During the meeting, Admiral Naveed Ashraf provided Prime Minister Sharif with insights into the roles, capabilities, and future modernization plans of the Pakistan Navy. A comprehensive briefing by Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) shed light on the prevailing maritime environment, the challenges confronting the Pakistan Navy, and the proactive measures undertaken to address these challenges.

Of particular interest to the prime minister were the capability requirements essential for effectively navigating current and future maritime challenges, as well as strategies to harness the economic potential of the maritime sector.

Expressing his appreciation, Prime Minister Sharif commended the Pakistan Navy’s professionalism and vigilance in thwarting the recent terrorist attack on Naval Airbase Turbat.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of a robust economy in overcoming national challenges, he reiterated the government’s commitment to bolstering economic stability. Wrapping up the visit, the prime minister toured the Command Operations Centre of the Pakistan Navy, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding the country’s maritime frontiers.
