PM Shehbaz Sharif presides NSC meeting

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on Friday.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, and military chiefs are also present at the meeting, which is taking place in the PM House.

The NSC had been called in by PM Shehbaz due to Pakistan’s present security crisis.

According to media reports, an integrated strategy against terrorism would be developed, and ISI Director General Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum will inform the audience of the recent terror wave in Pakistan and the Pak-Afghan border situation.

The decision to call the NSC meeting, the main forum for making decisions about foreign policy and national security, was made during a meeting on Thursday between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir.

A day had passed since the corps commanders’ session at the general headquarters, where the uptick in terrorism-related occurrences had been the main topic of discussion.

The military’s announcement following the corps commanders’ meeting stressed the need of eliminating the terrorist threat “as per the aspirations of the people of Pakistan.”
