PM Shehbaz urges national unity, calls for bond between forces and people to be strengthened

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for national unity and said that anyone wanting to hurt the bond between the armed forces and the people of Pakistan was not a friend of the country.

In his Defence Day message, the premier has urged for national unity to deal with the unprecedented floods that have caused more than one thousand deaths and millions displaced.

PM Shehbaz has said that the whole nation had come together to pay homage to the martyrs and ghazis who have put lives on the line against the Indian aggression. He also said, “Together, our armed forces and people thwarted the Indian machinations to undermine our territorial integrity.”

In his tweet, Shehbaz also said that there has been a need to summon the spirit of 1965 when Pakistan was grappling with historic floods and other challenges. He also stated that anyone trying to hurt the bond between the armed forces and people was not a friend of Pakistan; adding that we should fortify the bond.

The premier attended a ceremony at Pakistan Monument to pay tribute to the valiant soldiers and laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. At the moment, he lauded the martyrs for protecting Pakistan.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Jawed Bajwa has said that September 6 symbolized the unwavering resolve of the country’s armed forces to defend the motherland against all odds.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), army chief said that the nation salutes the heroes, adding that our freedom and peace is owed to the unprecedented sacrifices of martyrs to keep the flag high.

President Arif Alvi has also paid tribute to the martyrs and heroes of 1965 war. He has said that 57 years ago, on this day the evil designs of enemy were thwarted. He further said that not only the armed forces had fought fearlessly but every citizen came out to defend the motherland.

The president also said that Pakistan was committed to peace and would continue to follow its policy of peaceful coexistence.

ISPR had announced that the annual Defence Day ceremony on September 6 every year was postponed in solidarity with flood victims across the country.
