Poultry Traders Association ends strike after successful negotiations

Lahore: Following successful negotiations with the government, the Poultry Traders Association has called off its strike.

According to sources, the Punjab government has reinstated the formula for broiler prices effectively ending government intervention in pricing. Now, the respective associations will determine the prices of broilers. However, the announcement of the new decision has sparked concerns among citizens in various cities.

Despite the end of the strike, the supply of broiler meat in the market has not yet fully recovered. Due to a shortage in supply, broiler meat is still being sold at prices higher than the prescribed rates in some areas.

Reportedly, today’s rate for broiler meat has been set at Rs. 699 per kilogram with sales reaching up to Rs. 800 per kilogram in regular shops.

The sale of broiler meat at recognized market rates has raised concerns among citizens who are expressing dissatisfaction with the increased prices.

Citizens are alleging that after the strike by the Poultry Traders Association prices have soared even higher. The broiler mafia was allegedly keen on selling meat at inflated rates. With the government’s withdrawal from price control, the mafia seems to have been given a free hand.

It should be noted that the strike by the Poultry Traders Association was based on the method of determining prices. As a result of the strike, broiler meat shops remained closed for two days in the city. However, with the end of the strike today activities in the meat market, the largest in the city are gradually resuming.
