PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stresses popular support and political commitments in media address

Pakistan Peoples Party PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari declared that the people are poised to demonstrate their support for the PPP from Karachi to Kashmir on February 8, underscoring the need for a government that prioritizes the well-being of the populace.

He suggested that this time, the country would likely not have a Prime Minister from Lahore.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made these remarks while addressing the media after visiting the Gizri Football Stadium. He emphasized that the success of Jiyala candidates in the recent local body by-elections across Sindh affirmed the enduring support for the PPP from Kashmore to Karachi. He added that even if all their opponents united, they would not be able to defeat the PPP. He pointed out that the PPP was not in power during the by-elections, yet the voters rejected anti-PPP parties.

Responding to questions about reports of conversations between Asif Ali Zardari and Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that these reports were outdated. He mentioned that the conversation between Mian Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari took place on the occasion of Sharif’s return home, highlighting the ongoing dialogue with various political parties. However, he affirmed that the PPP would contest the elections independently with the support of the people.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed confidence that after winning the elections, the PPP would form governments at both the federal and provincial levels. He stressed that with the PPP in power in Karachi, the provinces, and the center, solutions to the people’s problems, such as water and unemployment, would be expedited.

Regarding the issue of terrorism, he reiterated the PPP’s clear stance and commitment to implementing the National Action Plan (NAP) to combat terrorism effectively. The PPP Chairman emphasized providing resources and support to the police to fight against terrorists.

Addressing the issue of President Arif Alvi’s tenure, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari noted that the country’s constitution allowed him to remain in office until a new president is elected. He underscored the importance of adhering to constitutional procedures in addressing any concerns and questioned why no steps were taken by the opposition during the previous government’s 16 months in power.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari asserted that those who attacked Jinnah House and military installations would not be forgiven by the people, and political parties would not pardon the conspirators. He expressed concern about the freezing of development projects in Sindh, highlighting the disparity in the treatment of the province compared to Punjab and the federal government. He noted that while the Chief Minister of Punjab received a prompt response to a letter regarding development project funds, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh’s letter remained unanswered, leading to increased unemployment in Sindh due to the project closures.

The press conference also featured the presence of former Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Waqar Mehdi, PPP Karachi Division President Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and other PPP leaders.
