PPP issues notice to Latif Khosa for representing Imran Khan in various legal cases

Sardar Latif Khosa, a disgruntled party leader and lawyer, was served a show-cause notice by the PPP on Thursday, asking him to justify why no disciplinary action should be taken against him for “working against the party policy.”

PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari signed the letter.

It stated, “You, as a member of the central executive committee, are defending/pleading/representing a head of another political party in corruption cases in which he has been convicted, and in a case against him under the Official Secrets Act, without the leadership’s prior approval.”

According to the letter, Khosa had also attacked official policy in regards to the “cypher.”

The letter clearly referred to PTI Chairman Imran Khan, who was detained last month in connection with the Toshakhana issue, while not mentioning him by name. The PTI leader has been represented by Khosa in a number of lawsuits brought against him.

A prosecution under the Official Secrets Act against the former premier involves a diplomatic document that allegedly disappeared out of Imran’s custody. According to the PTI, it contained a US threat to depose Imran from office.

Khosa was asked in a letter from the PPP to justify why he should not face disciplinary action for “working against the party policy.”

It requested a response from him and stated that failure to do so would result in “withdrawing your membership of PPP” as disciplinary action.

The letter was sent on the same day that the PPP called all aggrieved party leaders to attend its Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Lahore.

Due to their closeness to and support of Imran amid his legal issues, two of the party’s key figures, Khosa and Aitzaz Ahsan, have clashed with the party leadership.
