A seasoned political worker of Pakistan People’s Party has bemoaned the suspension of his salary since 2012 while complaining that the party has not helped him.

Karim Khowaja, who has been with the party for the past 20 years, was among those jiyalas who sustained critical injuries in the Karsaz bombing which targeted a motorcade carrying former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. On Sunday, he complained to journalists that he had been facing an acute financial crisis for the past 8 years owing to the suspension of his salary.

“After the assassination of mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, her workers and supporters have been left helpless by the current party leadership, which has not bothered to support the jiyalas who are the true ideologists of the party,” he bemoaned. “As per the promise of BB Shaheed we were given jobs in the Education Department, but after some time the then secretary of education, Fazlullah Pechhu suspended our salaries,” Khowaja claimed.

The dejected PPP worker said that time and again he had approached the concerned quarters to inquire after the reason behind the suspension of his salary but all his efforts in this regard had proved futile. “Four years ago on this day I was among the brave soldiers of BB but today there is no one to pay heed to my misery,” he complained while adding that the current party leadership was not in line with the ideology of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

He further warned that if the ignorant attitude of the current PPP leaders continued, it would bring Punjab-like results for it in Sindh in the coming years. He urged the Sindh government to restore his salaries and said that he would widen the scope of his protest if this issue was not resolved.
