PPP-PML-N alliance faces snag in by-elections: ‘N’ declines candidate withdrawal

After the Senate elections, the alliance between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the upcoming by-elections faces difficulties.

Sources report that the PML-N has rejected withdrawing its candidate to support the PPP contender.

Efforts to find common ground between the two parties have failed. The PML-N’s refusal to withdraw its candidate has hindered hopes for cooperation in the upcoming by-elections.

The PPP has nominated Mumtaz Chang for the PP-266 Rajanpur seat, while the PML-N has put forward Safdar Laghari. Since no election was held in this constituency before, the PML-N argues that the alliance formula doesn’t apply.

In response, the PPP demands a fair electoral arena. They accuse the police of taking retaliatory actions against their candidate in the constituency, adding to the electoral complications.

Following tensions over seat adjustments in the Punjab Senate election, the PPP expresses frustration with the PML-N’s lack of accommodation for women’s seats in the province. They refuse to withdraw Faiza Malik’s candidacy in response to the PML-N’s stance.

To show their dissatisfaction, the PPP’s parliamentary party decides not to attend the iftar dinner hosted by the Chief Minister of Punjab. This decision underscores the seriousness of the PPP’s position on the issue.
