PPP threatens to go on hunger strike if POL prices increased again

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Wednesday strongly condemned inflation and warned the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government that if prices of petroleum products were increased again, they would go on a hunger strike outside press clubs across Punjab.

The PPP mobilized its district level leadership to prepare themselves for the demonstration against inflation and made it clear that hunger strikes would go on from 9 am to 5 pm.

The announcement was made by PPP Punjab Secretary General Syed Hassan Murtaza in a Zoom meeting with 26 district leaders of the party.

The POL (petroleum oil lubricants) prices are regulated after every 15 days in a month and the Ministry of Petroleum is due to announce fresh prices on October 15.

“We will go on hunger strikes outside all press clubs in Punjab if the federal government increases petroleum prices this time again,” said Murtaza.

The party also announced to go on hunger strike and conduct rallies against sky-rocketing prices in Jhang. The party set a date of October 16 for the protest.

In another Zoom meeting, PPP Punjab President and former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf condemned the PTI government’s policies that caused inflation and badly affected the lives of the public.

“The government has badly stricken the public with inflation,” said Ashraf, adding that PPP always prioritized the public’s issues in its politics.

“Timely action and protest on public issues is important,” said Ashraf, furthering that PPP was standing by the public.

“All those who cast votes for PTI are now feeling regret,” said the PPP Punjab President. He announced that they would protest inflation everywhere in Punjab.
