Prime Minister extends congratulations to Sadiq Khan on re-election as Mayor of London

In a press release from the PM Office Media Wing, the Prime Minister extended his warmest congratulations to the newly re-elected Mayor Sadiq Khan for achieving a remarkable “hat trick” victory. Acknowledging Khan’s heritage as a hard-working British Pakistani, the Prime Minister commended him for not only bringing pride to his parents but also instilling a sense of joy and pride in every Pakistani.

The Prime Minister noted Khan’s re-election for a third consecutive term as a testament to his popularity and dedication to public welfare. Additionally, he expressed his best wishes for Khan’s continued success in the future.

The son of a Pakistani bus driver, Sadiq Khan, has been re-elected as London’s mayor, as confirmed by final results released on Saturday. Khan’s victory, his third consecutive win, was widely anticipated despite some public concerns regarding issues like knife crime and the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).

Despite these challenges, Khan’s win reaffirms the Labour Party’s strong position over the governing Conservatives in local elections, setting the stage for the upcoming national election later this year. The Conservative candidate, Susan Hall, was perceived by many as too polarizing, contributing to Khan’s decisive victory.
