PSL 10: Lahore, Rawalpindi to host more matches than Karachi

Cricket management is contemplating a reduction in the number of matches allocated to Karachi for the forthcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10.

This decision stems from the underwhelming turnout witnessed during the ninth edition’s matches in the port city.

Consequently, Lahore and Rawalpindi are poised to take on a more significant share of matches in the 2025 season.

Reports suggest that Karachi has been assigned just five matches in the draft schedule for PSL 2025, a notable decrease compared to the 11 matches it hosted in the previous season.

Meanwhile, Lahore is slated to host a maximum of 10 matches, and Rawalpindi is set to hold eight matches.

Multan, too, is expected to receive five matches during the event.

The rationale behind the reduction in matches for Karachi appears to be rooted in the desire to address the issue of low attendance.

Additionally, the PSL 2025 playoffs are slated to be held at a neutral venue, with England emerging as the likely destination.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is also exploring innovative changes aimed at elevating the excitement surrounding PSL matches in the upcoming edition.

These include proposals such as teams submitting two separate team sheets at the toss, allowing teams to select their final playing XI following the toss outcome to mitigate any disadvantage.

Another proposal under consideration is the introduction of a Power Surge, akin to Australia’s Big Bash League, which would enable teams to initiate a Power Play period spanning two overs at any point from the 11th over to the end of the innings, thereby condensing the traditional Power Play at the start of the innings to four overs.
