PTI opposes practice and procedure bill

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday announced its opposition to the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill.

A meeting of the PTI’s parliamentary party was held in the Senate in which it was decided that the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill would be opposed.

Senator Faisal Javed said that the Supreme Court will oppose the Practice and Procedure Bill in the Senate, and we demand that the bill should be sent to the committee.

On the other hand, PTI Senator Ali Zafar and Leader of the Opposition Shahzad Waseem tried to discuss the bill in the Senate session, but the Chairman Senate stopped them from talking.

Chairman Senate said, “Let the question hour be completed first. I will not bring the bill under consideration until you discuss the bill.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the National Assembly passed significant legislation to re-examine prior convictions. The accused have one month to file an appeal in opposition to the punishments, the legislation stated.

Under the practice and procedure bill, the ability to one-time appeal in 30 days would also be available to the former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Jahangir Tareen, Talal Chaudhry, Nawaz Sharif, and others impacted by rulings in suo motu cases.
