A rally organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Karachi aimed at demanding the release of Imran Khan resulted in the arrest of 23 supporters on allegations of road blockades.

Despite obstacles and impediments including accusations of mandate theft and the creation of hindrances by opposing parties, PTI proceeded with the rally culminating at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam.

In addition to the 23 supporters detained for blocking roads, eight activists from Insaf House were also arrested and PTI leader Shair Afzal Murawat’s rally was halted at various points.

Protests and road closures led to severe traffic congestion particularly at the Shara-e-Faisal interchange where the metro track remained closed for over two hours.

Police took action against PTI supporters accused of road blockades detaining them for interrogation. Following negotiations with the police, the rally concluded at the Quaid’s mausoleum.

Shair Afzal Murawat alleged that PTI’s mandate was stolen accusing MQM of foul play and announced a major gathering in Karachi on April 28th.
