US says PTI founder’s sentence ‘matter for Pakistan government’

The US clarified that it doesn’t interfere in Pakistan’s internal affairs, including the imprisonment of PTI’s founder, which is for the Pakistani government to handle.

When asked about claims of US involvement in releasing the former prime minister, the State Department’s Matthew Miller stated they don’t take a stance on such matters, leaving them for Pakistan to decide.

Regarding Pakistan’s security situation, Miller acknowledged the nation’s struggles with terrorism, expressing condolences for the victims of recent attacks and affirming the US commitment to collaborate in addressing the regional terrorist threat.

Concerning Afghan refugees in Pakistan, the spokesperson urged Pakistani authorities to adhere to non-return advisories.

Commenting on the ongoing communication with Pakistan on refugee safety within US resettlement programs, he pledged to address any issues collaboratively, prioritizing safe resettlement.

Encouraging neighboring countries, including Pakistan, to honor non-return advisories given Afghanistan’s crisis, they advocated for humanitarian support and protection screening coordination with international organizations.
