Punjab govt warns private schools in Lahore

The Punjab government in Lahore issued a warning to private schools, cautioning against demanding additional funds from parents beyond the monthly fees or enforcing purchases of uniforms and books from specific vendors.

The District Registration Authority, represented by Lahore Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider, sent notices to private school principals and owners, citing the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) Ordinance 1984.

This ordinance restricts schools to only charge tuition and admission fees and prohibits mandating purchases from particular shops.

The action followed instructions from DC Haider to Education Lahore CEO Pervez Akhtar to issue warnings to all private schools.

DC Haider specifically mentioned LACAS School for charging technology fees and binding students to specific vendors for books and uniforms.

Akhtar clarified that complaints would lead to action under relevant laws, emphasizing that schools cannot demand funds beyond fees or dictate book purchases.

Schools failing to comply face penalties under the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) Ordinance 1984 and must submit compliance reports to the District Registration Authority Lahore.
