Punjab Police intensifies anti-drug operations on CM’s orders

Under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Police has escalated efforts to combat the menace of drugs across the province.

Supervised by Inspector General (IG) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, intelligence-based targeted operations are being conducted as part of the ongoing Drug Free Punjab campaign.

During the special crackdown, over 16,000 raids were carried out on the hideouts of drug dealers throughout the province. A total of 7,929 cases were registered against drug offenders within a span of 57 days, leading to the arrest of 8,412 individuals. Seizures included 5,374 kilograms of charas, over 27 kilograms of Ice, 216 kilograms of opium, 97 kilograms of heroin, and 105,910 liters of alcohol confiscated from suspects.

A spokesperson for Punjab Police reported that in the past 24 hours alone, 229 raids were conducted on drug dealers’ hideouts province-wide, resulting in the apprehension of 90 individuals involved in drug trafficking. Additionally, 87 cases were registered against them, with confiscations including 44 kilograms of charas, 360 grams of Ice, and 862 liters of alcohol.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify anti-narcotics operations. He emphasized the importance of specialized teams in apprehending all suspects involved in the drug supply chain, from smugglers to dealers, and highlighted the need to set an example by prosecuting those who target educational institutions with drug distribution.
