Saudi Arabia nears first Miss Universe candidate amidst selection process

Saudi Arabia might have its first Miss Universe contestant this year, as organizers are in the process of selecting a potential candidate.

The Miss Universe Organization is currently evaluating candidates to award the Saudi Arabia franchise.

Rumy al-Qahtani, a Saudi model, sparked excitement when she claimed she had been chosen to represent the country at Miss Universe.

However, the Miss Universe Organization clarified that no selection process had taken place in Saudi Arabia yet.

If Saudi Arabia does field a contestant, it would reflect the country’s efforts to improve its image and promote tourism and investment.

Qahtani, speaking from her home in Riyadh, confirmed negotiations with Miss Universe but didn’t provide specifics. She mentioned facing unexpected questions about Saudi Arabia during her participation in pageants, including misconceptions about the country.

Despite some backlash, she expressed no regrets and emphasized her pride in representing her country.

Qahtani’s mother expressed support for her daughter’s journey and hoped she would inspire other Saudi girls to pursue their dreams.
