Sheikh Rashid praises army for merit in COAS selection summary

Awami Muslim League Pakistan (AMLP) leader and former Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid praised the institution for its foresight in including all the names in the summary created for the selection of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Rashid stated on Twitter that only merit will be used to appoint the COAS. The next COAS will be devoted to his institution and his constitutional duties while avoiding all political meddling.

He added that the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff would work tirelessly to rebuild the flagging economy, unlike Nawaz Sharif who fought with his own chosen officials.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif announced late on Tuesday night that the Prime Minister’s Office has received the summary for the nomination of the next COAS.

Khawaja Asif stated that “Prime Minister’s Office had received the summary that the Ministry of Defense had forwarded. Inshallah, the remaining procedures for selecting a new army chief will be finished soon.”

Asim Munir, Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Azhar Abbas, Nauman Mehmood, Faez Hameed, and Mohammad Amir are among the six lieutenant generals who have been mentioned in the list, according to media reports.
