The research conducted at the University Hospital Essen found that physical touch could act as a barrier against both physical and mental health issues.

The analysis was based on several past research reports.

The study discovered that hugging not only provided protection against depression and anxiety but also benefited physical health.

According to the research, besides humans touching other objects like a blanket also has health benefits.

Researchers concluded that physical contact or merely touching objects could help in managing physical discomfort, depression and anxiety issues.

They said that the results were astonishing and called for further research into the effects of touching on people’s health.

They emphasized that human touch had more prominent effects on mental health.

The research found that the duration of hugging did not matter however adults benefited more from prolonged touching.

The results of this study were published in the journal “Nature Human Behavior.”
