The Sindh health authorities dismisses as “sensationalized” a news article asserting that Karachi’s Covid-19 positive rate had increased alarmingly.

A media report had earlier quoted a representative from the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad that 30 out of 106 individuals who were evaluated for the viral infection tested positive for Covid-19, bringing Karachi’s incidence to 28.30%. The period during which the data was collected was not mentioned.

The provincial health department, however, released a statement today from its Public Relations Officer Mehar Khursheed noting that the article was “sensationalising the positivity rate in Karachi”.

According to the department, people who had Covid testing showed signs of the illness, which led to a greater percentage of positive.

The majority of the population has been effectively immunized against Covid, thus there are, nonetheless, relatively few serious instances, according to the statement.

Nevertheless, it is advisable to use caution and adhere to regular operating protocols. When entering hospitals or busy areas, the general public should use masks. To increase immunity to the virus and stop the spread of sickness, people are urged to receive booster doses, the statement continued.

The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) advised wearing masks last week in crowded, small spaces, including healthcare institutions. The NCOC claims that regulations were set for a time frame ending on April 30 while taking into account the nation’s existing Covid-19 trend.
