Overcharged electric wheelchair battery explodes, causes damage to multiple houses in area

Two members of a family, including a female social activist, burnt to death and three others sustained injuries after a fire broke out in their house in Lahore on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Sana Ayub, 40, and her brother Owais Mohammad Ayub, 42.

Rescue sources said that an electric wheelchair battery exploded due to overcharging, triggering the fire. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Factory Area Police Station. Several nearby houses were also damaged in the blast, they said.

Police and rescue teams shifted the bodies to the hospital. Further investigations were underway.

Separately, a three-year-old child was allegedly beaten to death by his father over a domestic issue in Lahore’s Shalimar area. Police shifted the body for an autopsy and registered a case on the request of the child’s mother.
