Social activists demand immediate restoration of ‘X’

New York: Human rights activists and social organizations have expressed deep concern over the shutdown of the social media platform ‘X’ and demanded its immediate restoration.

In Pakistan, the social media platform ‘X’ has been inaccessible nationwide for over a month affecting millions of users. Today, ‘X’ remains inaccessible to hundreds of thousands of users.

Human rights activists and social organizations have initiated a campaign on social media utilizing hashtags such as #RestoreX to draw attention to the restoration of the platform urging the government to take notice.

A joint statement highlighted the continuous silence of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and criticized the failure to provide any reasons for such actions.

The statement emphasized that such actions not only silence diverse political voices but also exacerbate the spread of misinformation.

Social activists have demanded immediate action to reverse digital censorship in Pakistan.

It’s worth noting that on February 8, internet services were completely shut down in the country during the general elections. Despite court orders regarding the restoration of the ‘X’ platform, the public continues to face intermittent shutdowns.
